Learn How to Target a Specific Audience on Facebook Posts and How to Use Facebook Audience Insights.
Why target a specific audience?
If everything you post is shown to everyone, most of the people who see it have no reason to care. Targeting a specific audience means your post reaches the people most likely to be interested, so each post and each rupee of advertising works harder. The video above shows how to do it. This page sets out the same ideas in writing.
Step 1: Decide who you want to reach
Write down your ideal customer in a few lines: where they live, their age group, what they are interested in and what problem they want solved. A cosmetics shop in Kolhapur has a very different audience from a company that sells accounting software to other businesses.
Step 2: Learn about the people already around your business
Facebook Audience Insights was a tool that showed the age, location, interests and behaviour of a group of people on Facebook. The video uses it to study the audience a business wants to reach. Meta changes the names and positions of its tools from time to time, so the menus you see today may look different from those in the video. The idea is the same: look at who already follows and engages with your page, and at the people you want to reach, before you decide whom to target.
Step 3: Match each post to its audience
- Use the language and examples your audience uses.
- Speak about one problem at a time, so the post is clearly meant for someone.
- Use the location and age settings that Facebook offers when you promote a post.
- Keep the offer and the call to action clear, such as a phone number or a message button.
Step 4: Test and measure
Start with a small budget, compare how different audiences respond, and keep the ones that bring enquiries. Do not judge a post by likes alone. Look at messages, calls, clicks and the number of people who became customers.
